This research project has been awarded the Special Commendation Award for Energy Efficiency by the Sustainable Energy Development Office at the Western Australian Environment Awards in November 2004.
This project went on to be the subject of the first assessment for abatement credits under the Australian Greenhouse Office acknowledgement as an official 'Carbon Offset Abatement' project subject to saleable 'Carbon Credits'.

PET Recycling in the USA from 1996 to 2007 | Biodegradable vs Non-Biodegradable Plastic Bottles
At present, the recycling industry in the US has an issue with bio-degradable PET, viewing the material as a possible contaminant where the material may be mixed in the post consumer waste stream and end up as a threat to products remanufactured to be long life durable where bio-degradability is not desirable.
